Our Exagmination Round His Factification for Incamination of Work in Progress, Samuel Beckett, Marcel Brion, Frank Budgen, et al. Paris: Shakespeare & Co, 1929. Considered by Joyce scholar Richard Ellmann to be the "first apologia" for Finnegans Wake, it prints 12 studies by contemporary writers dealing with Joyce's linguistic innovations in the work. The section by Beckett is considered his first appearance in print. Joyce is reputed to have written the hostile 'Letters of Protest' himself, and there are a number of quotations from Work in Progress as it had been appearing in transition. Wrappers worn with tearing and creasing, front wrapper and flyleaf detached, previous owner's name on flyleaf.
